Is this the best coffee in London? It’s definitely a contender!

Foxcroft and Ginger is part of the growing number of coffee shops in London serving lip smackingly good Monmouth coffee – hallelujah!!

I must add that they also serve a great range of freshly baked cakes and pastries, plus delectable sandwiches (some toasted). Tea and coffee is served in cute china cups and there is even an old fashioned mangle table that they put the cakes on – I particularly like this. Water bottles are old milk bottles with vintage prints and there is a display of ready bagged Monmouth coffee to purchase for take away.

This time I had a Flat White, which is literally to die for – smooth and creamy. I also purchased the French Toast with Ham and Cheese. It arrived at the table toasted with a drizzle of honey. Great touch.

My friend got a Cappuccino which came in a tall ceramic ‘plastic cup’. I first saw these a few years ago and instantly fell in love with them. I like the mismatched crockery, it adds an element of surprise.

Upstairs is a cute and intimate seating area with comfy cushions but downstairs is a bit more rough and ready – beaten leather sofas and a Pommel Horse as a table. They have free WI-FI so it’s a great spot to do a bit of work/blogging while you’re enjoying the food and drink on offer. Last time I went downstairs, I was welcomed by a sea of men tapping away on their Macs. They even have an alcohol licence so it’s a great place to enjoy a post work tipple too.

It was closing time when we were leaving and the barista came over to the table with a muffin wrapped in cellophane and told us that they are a bit of a tester and to let us know what we think. They call it their superfood muffin and is made with Beetroot, nuts and seeds. What did I think? Delicious – not too sweet and the beetroot gives it a lovely and moist texture.

I’m always content when I walk out of the large wooden door onto Berwick Street, then winding down the back streets of Soho to the tube, or wherever the night takes me.

Fremantle Arts Center Cafe

Fremantle is one of Perths best suburbs, in my opinion! We visited for a day to have a look around some of the vintage shops and stumbled upon a fantastic book shop, which had a huge cookery book section. I got lost in there for a while before trying on and buying a dress from the vintage store in the back.

We then went for a bit to eat in the Fremantle Art Centre Cafe. By this time of the holiday, I was becoming obsessed with coffee – I cast my mind back a few months ago and I wouldn’t even touch the stuff. So I ordered a Flat White (my new favourite drink) and a Chorizo and Halloumi lunch board.

We sat in the courtyard, which is very pretty – vintage bicycles hang on the wall and the tables are laid with flours. When we arrived, all of the seats in the shade were taken so we had to sit in the sun and it was slightly too hot for my liking.

When you’ve had a bite to eat, saunter next door and take in the exhibition on show or visit the shop.

Peter’s Yard, Edinburgh

I have a real craving for cinnamon at the moment, much to the amusement of my workmates and it has reminded me of a breakfast that I had when I was in Edinburgh a couple of weekends ago.

One of my workmates lived in Edinburgh during her uni years and sent a few recommendations before we embarked on our 3 day trip. One of those suggestions was Peter’s Yard. So naturally, we decided to head there for breakfast. It ended up being a pretty late one and we didn’t want to eat too much as we had a hefty lunch planned at Petit Paris. We opted for a delicious Cinnamon bun and a lovely pot of tea to go with it.

The cafe itself was buzzing and full with very, very cool looking couples, yummy mummies and university students. The high ceilings made it feel very light, airy and modern (very Scandinavian). The food looked fresh, the salads tempting. There was also a table holding freshly baked breads, cookies and pastries.

The first things that I saw when I walked in were the infamous Peter’s Yard Crisp Breads. I bought a packet a while back and immediately fell in love. They are just delicious and perfect with homemade chilli jam, my boyfriend style.

I really would love to have stayed for lunch but we had shopping and a scrummy French meal to attend to. I would be eternally grateful if they were to open a cafe in London!

Ginger and White, Hampstead

Australians are taking over London, yaaaaaaaay! Well, I’d actually like to think so purely based on the fact that they are bringing their incredible cafe culture to London. Please sirs, we want some more!

I’m talking about Ginger and White in leafy Hampstead. I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better day last Sunday. I woke up at 9, hopped in the car and drove to Hampstead. Nestled down a quiet countryesque lane next to houses built for our shorter predecessors, Ginger and White boasts a cute range of breakfast, brunch, teas and coffee. I’m not a coffee drinker myself but I adore looking at a silky smooth flat White.

The first thing you notice as you walk through the door is the vast amount (or maybe it looks vast as the counter is teeny) of home baked cakes, breakfast muffins and pastries. All housed in front of shelves stocked with kilner jars full of pulses and spices and delightful pastel tea sets.

Venture further inside and you’ll find a large communal table (above which a large picture of the British flag resides – ironic as every waiter/waitress is Australian), window seats and sofas toward back of the room, which offer a more secluded newspaper reading setting.

The menus hang from the wall on wooden clipboards and you can’t help but notice the chalk board wall reading ‘Keep cups £8.50 – first coffee free’ nice idea, especially if you are a resident nearby (I WISH!)

So what did we order? The sausage sarnie (substituted brown sauce for red) and the ham and cheese croissant. My boyfriend did proclaim that ‘it’s only a sausage sandwich’ when I started snapping away and I agreed but a bloody good looking one at that.

My mouth waters now thinking of the buttery ham and cheese croissant – afraid there’s no pic of this as my boyfriend devoured most of it before I’d even finished the photo of the sausage sarnie.

To finish (yes, you can have dessert at breakfast time too) I had a slab of banana cake with a dollop of buttercream and a banana chip on top. I thought that the banana chip was a nice touch.

The condiments that come with the toast on offer were all laid out on the tables along with the obligatory jar of Marmite. It was pointed out that maybe this should have been Vegemite!

There are also gluten free options and kiddie options (mini cupcakes) – they know it’s yummy mummy ville.

Finish with a pot of tea and a walk around Hampstead Heath and there you have the recipe for the perfect ‘lazy’ Sunday.
